2XKO – Blitzcrank Reveal

They are not constructed like me

The most recent character has been revealed for Riot Games’ upcoming 2D tag fighter 2XKO and it is none other than the beloved, but also often despised, great steam golem Blitzcrank. This brings the total number of revealed fighters to nine and with the closed beta starting September 9, it will not be long before many will be able to test out this mechanisation firsthand.

This iteration of Blitzcrank seems to maintain the key characteristics from his League of Legends counterpart, including the iconic ‘rocket grab’ or hook that seems to be chargeable too, leading into some power-fisting combos. The golem also maintains many of his electrifying attacks and abilities, the most exciting element being how Blitz appears to be a true grappler. Multiple command grabs are displayed in the trailer, many drawing direct parallels to the OG grappler Zangief. This includes the classic and severely destructive SPD and the intimidating Running Bear Grab (Siberian Express).

You cannot mention this reveal without giving proper respect to the humour and new voice that has been constructed for this trash-talking, borderline toxic robot. Admittedly the new voiceover was a little jarring at first, having been so used to his League version, but given multiple viewings, I’m excited for this cocky robot and to hear the rest of his voice lines. Previously Blitz had haunted my dreams, standing menacingly in ARAM games taunting me endlessly with that diabolical laugh; now…it’s ten times worse. Getting command grabbed leads to one of multiple roasts, including ‘trash detected’. If that doesn’t have you holding up trying to avoid that damage and insult I don’t know what will. Yet the most savage of all is the win quote, ‘You should change your settings to win.’ If only it was that easy Blitz.

So whether you are looking forward to this infuriating being or completely dreading it, I am at least excited to so this new iteration. After all, half the fun in fighting games is seeing how many ragequits you can get and Blitz seems like just the character to do it with.
